You may be aware from media coverage that the NEU teaching union has declared strike action, which will take place on Wednesday 1st February, Tuesday 28th February, Wednesday 15th March and Thursday 16th March. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government to ensure enough money is available to pay a fully-funded increase in pay for teachers which at least matches inflation, and which begins to restore lost pay and not because of any issues at our school.
We’re sorry to inform you that St. Luke’s Halsall CE Primary will be closed on Wednesday 1st February. We are asking you not to send your child into school on this day.
We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils, and feel that we would be unable to provide safe supervision with the staff we have available.
School will not be providing remote teaching but should you wish to access online learning resources to support your child during the day you may find the following websites useful:
The Oak National Academy: https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-key-stage
BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/primary
Oxford Owl: https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/
We’re sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child at short notice, and that they will experience disruption to their education. We understand that this situation may be frustrating, and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect.
We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further and with regards to the future planned strike days.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Miller via the school office.
